The Northern Territory is a popular self drive destination, with three key routes designed to show visitors the best parts of the region.
Natures Way
Nature’s Way travels from Darwin through World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park and Nitmiluk (Katherine) National Park, returning via Litchfield National Park. Recommended as a 6 – 7-day itinerary starting in Darwin, the drive to Kakadu is an easy 3-hour drive. Two nights in Kakadu allows visitors to enjoy wildlife cruises, rock art and bush walks at an easy pace. Heading to Katherine is another easy 3-hour drive, two nights is also recommended so visitors can spend time at the Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge as well as enjoying the natural hot water springs in Katherine and learn about the agricultural history of the region. Travel back to Darwin, via Litchfield National Park, where visitors can swim in crystal-clear swimming holes and under waterfalls, and take bush walks through the monsoon rainforest walks, before heading back to Darwin, which is just 90 minutes away. The final days can be spent in Darwin, enjoying the many activities on offer.
